Is redacted information truly unrecoverable?
Yes. pattopdf completely rebuilds the PDF as images, so text data under redacted areas is permanently removed. It cannot be recovered through copy-paste or PDF editing tools.
What is the difference between black and white fill?
Black fill covers the redacted area with a black rectangle. White fill covers it with white, blending into the document background. Both completely remove underlying text data.
Can I select text in the redacted PDF?
Since redaction rebuilds all pages as images, text selection is not available in the output. If you need text selection, use the OCR tool after redacting.
